Before you order
Measure the opening, not the door
Shower door sizes are the finished opening. Measure at the top, middle and bottom — older bathrooms are rarely square, and the narrowest measurement is the one that matters.
Glass thickness changes the feel
6 mm is lighter and cheaper; 10 mm feels solid and hangs straighter. The hardware differs too, so decide before you order.
Check the rough-in before the toilet
The distance from the wall to the drain bolts is usually 12 inches, but not always. Measuring it takes a minute and saves a return.
Tubs need a delivery plan
A freestanding tub ships by freight and arrives at the curb. Work out how it gets into the bathroom before it is on the truck.
